SLT FAQs:

What is Strategic Life Training?
SLT is a two-year course that involves both an annual conference component (SLT Intensive) as well as a nine-month curriculum and mentoring component that is based in the local church.

What is the SLT Intensive?
In the United States, each of the two years of the course begins with a four-day conference, usually during the summer. The goal of the Intensive is to inspire and envision students and facilitators, and to lay a foundation that will help prepare them for the curriculum and mentoring component that will follow throughout the year. The Intensive is mandatory for all those who want to participate in Strategic Life Training that year.

Are their prerequisites to my enrollment in the course?
There are no prerequisites to enroll in the first year of SLT.  While not required, we do recommend the following materials to better prepare you for enrollment: Strategic Beginnings Worldview, Strategic Beginnings Spiritual Disciplines, and the book Winning the Battle for the Minds of Men. These materials can be purchased through our founding organizations website at www.gostrategic.org

When can I attend an Intensive?
You can attend the Intensive at any time, with no obligation for enrollment. It is open to all who are interested in slt and leadership development. Those wishing to enroll in SLT are required to attend the Intensive.  You can attend an Intensive in any location (either domestic or abroad).

When can I enroll in SLT?
You can enroll in the first year of the SLT course any time during open enrollment which runs from May through September. Once enrolled you will be assigned a facilitator to help you through the materials.

When can I enroll in the second year of SLT?
You can enroll in the second year of SLT with the approval of your facilitator and completion of the first year of the SLT course. You must also attend an SLT Intensive prior to enrollment.

How do I become a course facilitator?
All seasoned course facilitators are graduates of the course themselves. Occasionally a local leader will want to facilitate a local group. In such cases, First time facilitators, if not previous graduates, are required to simultaneously enroll in SLT as they are leading their group. These first time facilitators will also be assigned a regional mentor, to help aid them in their studies.

Can my spouse enroll? Is there a discount?
SLT has a policy permitting the spouse of a full paid student to enroll in the course tuition free, at any time during open enrollment. If they would like their own set of materials they will need to purchase these separately. To receive credit, they must notify the office of their enrollment during open enrollment. Students requesting credit past the open enrollment period will not receive it.

Is it possible to go through SLT without going to the intensive?
All students are required to first attend an SLT Intensive prior to enrolling in the course. In a few very specific cases this requirement as been waived, but typically students and facilitators are required to attend. Because of the relational attribute of the course as well as the foundational nature of the intensive, our experience has shown that students who attend Intensives are set on a powerful trajectory for their course of studies.

What is the recommended age requirement for an SLT student?
While the typical age of an SLT student is early 20’s the course is open to students from age 17 and up. We have found students from all walks of life and all age brackets to benefit from the course.

What if mentors/facilitators are not available in one’s local church?
Depending on your location, we are typically able to assign an SLT Facilitator to you, if you do not have one available in your local area. SLT facilitators are currently located in over 13 states and Canada. We also have SLT schools in Europe and Australasia.

Does someone have to complete SLT before becoming a facilitator?
While we recommend completion of SLT as a student, prior to becoming a facilitator, it is not a requirement. First time facilitators, if not previous graduates, are required to simultaneously enroll in SLT as they are leading their group. These first time facilitators will also be assigned a regional mentor, to help aid them in their studies.

Are SLT regional events/intensive for prospective students only or are they open to anyone?
SLT regional events and intensives are open to anyone. You are not required to be enrolling in the program to attend.

What if I can’t afford the Intensive/course costs?
SLT does provide scholarships by application (see application under registration page of website) and can negotiate a payment plan for your tuition.

When is tuition due and are payment plans available?
Tuition is due upon arrival at the Intensive unless prior payment plan arrangements have been made.

Are discounts available for several students in a church/group who wish to go through SLT together?
Group discounts are available for those who register as a group and in advance. For more details regarding this please contact our school administrator (sltadministrator@gostrategic.org)

Can I go through SLT more than once?
Some students find it necessary/helpful to repeat years in SLT. Should you choose to repeat a year you will have a minimal repeat fee to cover your administrative costs.

Will refunds be given to students/facilitators who cancel enrollment?
Our cancellation policy is as follows:
Those choosing to discontinue their enrollment in the course within 90 days will receive 3/4 of the tuition fee refunded less the curriculum cost. The curriculum is theirs to keep. Those choosing to discontinue past 90 days of enrollment will not receive a refund; the materials are theirs to keep. If, for any reason, the product is faulty, we will replace it promptly. We welcome your input as to how our products can be improved to better serve you.
